The Delta Duo—JJ and Irina—is the sound of a National resonator slide guitar coupled to a classical Russian violin accompaniment. Mission: keep the early Delta blues alive through our passion and sheer joy of performance. Russian violinist Irina Povarova was formally trained in classical violin at the Kazan musical conservatory in Tatarstan. She has toured throughout Europe with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Radio and TV Company of Belarus, and more recently, she has performed stateside with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and her chamber music quartet in venues across central Indiana, including Carmel’s new Palladium. Bluesman guitarist JJ is a lecturer in creative writing and English composition at Indiana University in Indianapolis. He is a devotee of early acoustic blues and brings his passion for these musical roots to each performance. He has performed on the streets of Moscow as well as the United States. He has appeared in various Indianapolis clubs, bookstores, coffeehouses, house parties, and outdoor music festivals, intent on carrying the acoustic blues tradition to all generations of music lovers. JJ studied under the personal tutelage of world-renown artists Stefan Grossman, Woody Mann, and acoustic blues master Rory Block.
