Tonights Orange County New York Arts Council Awards were such a pleasure to attend. I think its extremely important to recognize the influences that these individuals have had on our area - to recognize good people for great efforts. I really enjoyed listening to everyones experiences. I was especially moved by Robert Demetry, who received the Salute to Veterans Award. Demetry has an impressive career starting back in the Air Force in the Vietnam War but in delivering his acceptance speech, it was clear that his livelihood in photojournalism has always been based on pushing through comfort zones and cutting through the medias fluff. I was also thoroughly impressed by the raw talent and truthful compassion of Francesco Mastalia, winner of the Individual Artist Award. His, ORGANIC project documents over 100 farmers and chefs of the Hudson Valley who are committed to sustainable farming methods. I havent known Orange County without the Arts Council but one of the main reasons I choose to live here is because of the art culture present - thank you Dawn Oliver Ansbro for all your efforts - as an artist I appreciate it!
