Not trying out your new gear at home. Right?! Take some time to setup your new tent or learn how to regulate that new stove so you can sleep and eat well. 2. Showing up to your campsite at night. Dark is dark, and flashlights or headlight help, but seriously, a little bit of planning goes a long way, cause the dark is scary! 3. Not planning for rain. Plan for two scenarios: at camp or on the trail. Make sure to have a tarp suspended over your picnic table and bring an emergency rain poncho for the trail. 4. Not packing a first aid kit. Nothing worse than running around looking for the right sized leaf to stop the bleeding. Pack some band-aids and Neosporin and call it a day if you must, otherwise bring a first aid kit! 5. Leaving food out for critters. You know why nobody has a pet raccoon? Cause they are terrible animals that get into everything. Keep you campsite clean and avoid these little buggers. Plus, your neighbours will appreciate your cleanliness and maybe offer you some smores! 6. Not reserving a campsite. Nobody likes a trail head tent. Google can help you find a site quick! Just search camping spots 7. Not bringing enough warm clothes. You never know what the weather could bring, even in the summer a nice pair of sweatpants can help make a card game that much more enjoyable in the evening. 8. Trying to build a fire too fast. Not using a headlamp. These things are the best. Hands-free so you can get camp setup right, and blinding your buddy while talking to him/her never gets old. Ok. Ok. Buy one that has the red lens so you can keep the peace. Nigh vision rocks. And last but not least. 10. Not researching the area. Again, google can help you find out anything: grocery store nearby, cold beer vendor, local attractions or even a hotel! So what did we miss?
