Tough Love, Tougher Lessons About Liberty Sometimes there is nothing anyone can do to help prevent another from making tragic mistakes. Sometimes we just have to let others fall and hit rock bottom. There is nothing we can do to help others who do not want help and reject logic and reason. All who say we have a moral responsibility to aid those in trouble, even if it is against their wills, are not necessarily helping needy. Just as a law does not prevent poor moral choices, law do not encourage good moral choices either. Why? Simply put, because laws are the equivalent of “do this/don’t do this OR ELSE!” Lasting good will cannot be legislated or encouraged with force or coercion. Only logic, reason and personal experience can teach good will. It is a shame that otherwise good people must die because of their mistakes. But that is part of liberty. That is the darker side of liberty and the desire to force aid onto others is the lighter side of tyranny. There is just no saving some people. We should not shield our minds from the prospect of failure; especially if we keep our minds honestly industrious. There is always something to be learned; and when we accept the fact that mistakes will be made we can do better than just hope for change. We can affect more positive and greater change by sharing our new wisdom with those willing to accept it and learn from it. In doing so, we protect liberty by continuing to accept the fact that not everyone will be satisfied with sound logic and reason. Some must experience certain things for themselves before they will be satisfied. That is what liberty is about, volunteerism and nonaggression; and the premise that everyone can be saved is the foundation of the concept that benevolent government is necessary even though it is ultimately anti liberty. -HvsP ~~~ #History #Politics #CriticalThinking
