Tour da Assam. I remember it was 2008, when I was flying - TopicsExpress

Tour da Assam. I remember it was 2008, when I was flying exactly atop the Brahmputra river. I was on a two weeks official tour to Digboi, a destined place known for its Oil refineries. As Digboi don’t have any of its domestic air circuitry, I had to initially take a land on Dibrugarh and from there a distance of around 70-80 Km via road. But let me tell you, I still remember the visuals of Brahmputra river from a lower elevation of around 3000 Ft. It was nothing sort of magnificent, a broad, sprawling river with abundance of water flow and not to forget those green forestry surrounding the river, really a marvellous one. Had I been the expert of bungee jumping troopers, I would have taken a chance and straight to bottom of river and just like a dolphin could have come out of the river surface. But then I realised it is enough of imaginations and I am sitting in between seat belts and air hostesses were giving some beautiful instructions. Still, I am unable to forget those visuals of fishermen enjoying their ride of special boats, their boats are of unique shape, very light and smaller one, a sort of big basket made of bamboos. Shortly, I was crawling on the surface and was going through a routine checks-up of airport. My all luggage had been thoroughly checked. Even earlier I had been on airports but I had never gone through those magnitudes of frisked security check-ups. Even my boots were asked to be removed. It might be, I was looking one of those potential threats but anyway, I had entered the land known for its notorious and mischievous militant activities. I had gone through many round of ‘Tango Charlie’ movie before making a tour of this land. Anyway, I was out of airport and was on a drive to Digboi. It was magnificent of all visuals, all around my journey it was plenty of tea gardens and those sorts of rainy climates had no matching. Roads were straight in a direction of nose, it was a complete unidirectional road for a stretch of more than 50 kms. I had best of my travelogue so far. Once at the guest house, I was again lost in those climatic wonders. But wait a while, why those smartest of looking army men equipped with AK-47’s is surrounding the premises. Yehhh, this is what we call as the land of Bodo’s, the furriest of militant groups. Nowadays newspapers and social networking sites are filled with their details. Let me tell you those cold climatic marvels had another insane reality. It is not as wonderful as it looks like. The name of Bodo’s rules these lands. In contrary to my expectation, I met best of human beings on my official programme, very supportive, much disciplined and the best of ethical. I was given warmest of hospitality from their side and for my refreshment and regard those professionals of my age group even arranged a special club outing on weekend, the best of evening I had so far. This club carries only one of first 18 holes golf course in India. I am still missing that itinerary of my life. And the worst part is that today’s Brahmputra has again turned red. I will not go into the details of who’s killing whose. But let me tell you very categorically, potential of this land has never been realised in last 67 years, it is the most beautiful place of our country, the best of peoples I have met so far. It can truly match the best of best powers of east, in the likes of Singapore and even Hongkongs. But the saddest part is that mixed with those militant ambitions it has turned into a political safe bout, a sort of explosive composition. Entire North-East is delicately balanced in terms of demographic proportions. Those political bigwigs will never allow it to settle easily as it suits them. They are not even hesitant to turn it into a mini Bangladesh or a sort of even Kashmir. It keeps them in power and that is what it matters in political arena. It is nice to show solidarity with those candle marches but sadly it is not goanna to silence the screams of AK-47’s. Going through past trends many more retaliatory insurgencies are possible. It will be a taste of acumen of our PM. Hopefully, he makes it through.
