Transportation Cabinet conducts public meeting on proposed widening of US 460 in Magoffin County JACKSON, KY – Approximately 150 people attended a public meeting to discuss the proposed widening of a section US 460 (Parkway Drive) in Magoffin County on Thursday, Jan. 23. The meeting was conducted by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways District 10. Attendees viewed a presentation by District 10 personnel and consultants. They provided comments on the project, asked several questions and viewed maps of the area showing the general scope of the proposed project. They were also provided comment forms on which they could express their opinions on the project. A proposal is under consideration to widen US 460 in Salyersville to a four-lane thoroughfare between the eastern terminus of the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway and the KY 114 intersection. The route currently consists of two 12-foot travel lanes with a center two-way left turn lane. The proposed route would consist of four 12-foot travel lanes. A series of frontage and backage roads would be built to provide access to the businesses along the route, known locally as “Restaurant Row,” with signalized intersections to control the flow of traffic. The intersections of US 460 with KY 1888 and KY 1415 would be realigned. A shared use path for pedestrians, bicyclists and horseback riders would also be built. Approximately 18,000 vehicles currently use this portion of US 460 each day. The US 460 project in Salyersville is part of the larger project recently announced to widen the entire Mountain Parkway corridor between Campton and Prestonsburg. Funding for final design of the US 460 widening is in place, but no funding for right of way acquisition, utility relocation or construction has yet been allocated. Funding for those phases is included in the highway plan that was presented last week to the Kentucky General Assembly. If the legislature approves the plan, those funds will become available. The project manager will receive written comments on the project through Feb. 8. Photographs and plans displayed at the public hearing may be viewed at the Department of Highways District 10 office, 473 Highway 15 South, Jackson, during the comment period. Comments on the project may be addressed to: Jason Blackburn, P.E., project manager; Kentucky Department of Highways, P.O. Box 621, Jackson, KY 41339. --####--
