Trigger Warning: Hey everyone, there was a case of antiAsian/immigrant Chicago police brutality that occurred last summer. Last week, video footage was released showing the disturbing treatment of an Asian American woman. While she was handcuffed, the police officers angrily shouted racist and anti-immigrant comments while hitting her. Here is a snippet of what was said: POLICE OFFICER: You’re not f—— American! I’ll put you in a UPS box and send you back to wherever the f— you came from! PLAINTIFF: I’m a citizen, OK? POLICE OFFICER: No you’re not! No, you’re not a citizen! No, you’re not! No, you’re not! You’re here on our borrowed time. So mind your f—— business before I shut this whole f—— place down. And I’ll take this place and then whoever owns it will f—— kill you because they don’t care about you, OK? I’ll take this building. You’ll be dead and your family will be dead. This is unacceptable behavior and is representative of the xenophobia that exists in this country. Because of this, it is important for our community to raise our voices and make it know that we belong here and are American too. For those in the Chicago area, this Thursday at 9:30am CST in front of the mayors office there will be a rally and press conference to show that Asian Americans will not tolerate this behavior and sentiment. If you are free and able, we encourage you to stand up against this injustice and attend the rally. More information will be found in the FB event linked bloew. For those that cannot make it there will be to be a twitter discussion on racism, anti-immigrant hate and also police brutality. It will be begin today from 3pm-5pm CST under the hashtag #copout.
