Tropical Depression 15F is moving further away from Fiji. Director Meteorology – Alipate Waqaicelua says however Fiji is still not fully out of threat as many parts will still experience heavy rain. “It is intensifying but the associated cloud and rain together with the moist easterly wind – those are what is affecting Fiji particularly the Lau Group, Lomaiviti, eastern parts of Viti Levu, s well as the southern parts of Vanua Levu and Taveuni. That is why we have reinstated the heavy rain warning for the eastern parts of Viti Levu.” Waqaicelua says the Depression was located 130km southeast of Lakeba at 9am this morning and moving away southeast at 20km/hr. “Not at this stage, it is not expected to turn back but keep on moving further away from Fiji. Right now it is only the cloud and rain that are affecting Fiji but Fiji should not be concerned about the TD coming back.” He says some parts of Fiji will continue to experience rainy weather until Monday. “For the next 24 hours, we are looking into Sunday and even into Monday for the Lau group atleast to be clear form all this rain. It all depends on the movement of the depression and if it does develop into a tropical cyclone and depends as well on its path, as well as its intensity and how fast it is going to move away from Fiji and Tonga.” People have been urged to take heed of all warning at all times.
