Tropical Storm Chantal formed late last night and as of 11AM this - TopicsExpress

Tropical Storm Chantal formed late last night and as of 11AM this morning was located about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands. The 11AM EDT forecast from that National Hurricane Center projects that Chantal will cross the Windward and Leeward Islands on Tuesday and then pass south of Puerto Rico on Wednesday. On this present forecast track, Chantal would remain a tropical storm and curve northwestward or northward into the vicinity of The Bahamas by Friday. As typical with tropical cyclone forecasts 5 or more days out, there is a high amount of uncertainty in the future track and strength of Chantal. All of South Florida should monitor the latest forecasts this week, as Chantal could have an impact on weather Friday through this weekend. Additional information, including updated positions and forecasts for Chantal, can be found on our website at: weather.gov/miami and from the National Hurricane Center at nhc.noaa.gov.
