True story: I stepped to a rally at Five Pts today, skeptical but faithful, as well as curious. I drove by debating and heard my elder Baba pouring libation, and was compelled to stop. As I walked up, I heard my sis on the mic spittin FIYAH, and I felt a little more at ease. My judgement said at least someone up there knows what they are talkin bout... Just being honest. I was obviously full of pre-conceived notions about what WONT happen at yet another talk fest. So I stood in the ranks and felt the excitement of the people, while sending telepathic messages to the copters flying over with nothing better to do. Then, after a few energetic speakers, I started leaving, making my way through the crowd, and got a CLEAR measage from all those warrior ancestors I call upon. I bumped right into two of my daughters friends. Two of their most KNUCKLEHEADED friends, bka two sweet teenage girls striving to make sense out of their lives in the midst of all manner of madness. Trust me, if u think YOU got drama...... You may be waiting for the hook in terms of what this great message was. That was it. There they were, representing an entire generation. I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised. As long as Ive known those two, they have always been in the midst of some kinda drama, trouble or controversy..usually something illegal or crazy. Lol. Tonight I saw the same youth, but in a new way. Tonight I saw two teenage girls who drove over an hour into downtown Atl from their hometown to stand and witness and participate in what was their very first political rally, instead of smoked out at the crib or playing the mall all night during this foliday week. Then I remembered, and chastised the old mans voice in me, and many of you, that is so clearly THROUGH with marches that he almost closed a door, a mental door, to the main thing that proves our immortality: the spirit of continuity. Yes, the mental door. The opening to a space of guidance, of support, of solidarity, of empathy and of protection. We should never get so set in our ways or worn out in our options that we do not allow the MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL space for our youth to step up and rise up to the occasion. Regardless of if we in our logic (OR wisdom) would have them in a different setting. Regardless of if we agree with all they say or want. The youth ARE the strength of the Nation (not to b confused with the usa), and we would be wise to either patiently (not to be confused with condescendingly), lovingly put them up on game as we know it OR step out of their way. Or both. Now I would argue that I am NOT that dude who would EVER lose touch with the changing tides in creation, or get sick of the prottacted journey, as I am still a youth at heart mySELF. However, I am grateful for the universal chin check, however subtle via those 2 babies. I am.grateful for my feelings about them. I could care less about a pissing contest with any self proclaimed revolutionary over what we are doing for our people, but would be ashamed of myself beyond limit to ever be guilty of turning my back on the youth. What has all our collective experience amounted to anyway? THEM. The beautiful, the good, the bad and the ugly of them..they are a reflection of us... #aCHILDshallleadthem #getoutthewayifyoucantlendahand #guidance
