Two generations ago, my family was separated by revolution. Now, our families meeting in Moscow so that we can be reunited. During the Bolshevik Revolution, my great grandfather was forcibly taken from my grandfather and exiled to a re-education camp in Siberia. They never saw each other again. My grandfather, a teenager at the time, went on to survive the WWII invasion and occupation of Poland, a Nazi labor camp, reconstruction-era West Germany and immigration to the U.S. My great-grandfather was eventually released from the re-education camp. Neither knew the other had survived until decades later. They never saw each other again. With the help of a Russian television show, Wait for Me, our two halves of a family will become one again. I only wish my grandfather could be here today to meet his brother. I hope we can honor his memory well.
