Both men played gay characters that year and both actors died tragic deaths - Hoffman just earlier this month. Ledger died in 2008 at the age of 28 but his memory, and his performance of Ennis Del Mar in Brokeback lives on. A pair of shirts that Ledger wore in the film brought in $15,625 during an auction that ended on Thursday (27 February). They were sold to an unknown buyer by Hollywood memorabilia collector Nate D. Sanders. In Brokeback, Ledgers character of Ennis Del Mar is a rural man who falls in love with another man named Jack Twist played by Jake Gyllenhaal. These shirts auctioned off were worn by Ledger during the scene in which Ennis informs Jack that he doesnt plan to sleep with him again. The pair of shirts comprise of a white ribbed tank top and rust color plaid shirt. Although Ledger lost the Oscar to Hoffman, he did win it posthumously in 2009 for his performance in The Dark Knight.
