UEFA President Michael Platini has called on the expertise of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to aid the European governing body in the future, the Daily Mail reports. Sir Alex called time on his United career in May but is speculated to be asked to provide technical insights to UEFA. Platini was quoted as saying in the UEFA Champions League season review ”Sir Alex Ferguson has left an indelible imprint on the UEFA Champions League. It is strange to think that a coach who has featured so prominently across the European football landscape over three decades will not be seen issuing his instructions on the touchline. But we hope he will continue to play a role with us, helping shape the direction of the sport and safeguarding its future.” Ferguson is now a director for United and will also take on the role of a club ambassador. Under Fergie’s leadership, United won the 13 Premier Leagues and 2 Champion League’s including a historic treble in 1999. After he announced his retirement, Platini described him as “a true visionary”.
