UGC clears Rs 19.87 cr grant for four Kashmir varsities..... Srinagar 01/Sep: University Grants Commission has sanctioned release of funds of Rs 19.87 crore for four varsities in Jammu and Kashmir under the General Development Assistance Plan (GDAP). This was conveyed yesterday to Governor NN Vohra, who is Chancellor of the four universities, an official spokesman said. The grants, under the 12th Plan, are being released against a tentative allocation of Rs 49.69 crore for the four varsities, the spokesman said. The amount sanctioned so far is 40 per cent of the total Plan allocation made by UGC for Jammu University, Kashmir University, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. "The communication from UGC, New Delhi, intimates that out of a tentative 12th Plan allocation of Rs 14.04 crore for Jammu University, an amount of Rs 5.61 crore has been sanctioned till date," the spokesman said. Against Rs 17.61 crore allocated for Kashmir University, Rs 7.04 crore has so far been sanctioned, he said adding that an amount of Rs 4.01 crore had been released in favour Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University while Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University would receive Rs 3.20 crore.
