UK to Sikkim, reunion of History Mrs. Jennifer Mary Hill and Mr. Andrew John Hill from Somerset, United Kingdom called on Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Shriniwas Patil at Raj Bhavan on 11th October 2014. The couple are on five day tour to Sikkim in their maiden trip to India. After the formal exchange of greetings, Mrs. Hill handed over many photographs and documents of historical significance to the Hon’ble Governor including an autographed official marriage photograph of Late Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal and Lt. Maharani Kunzang Dechhen. It may be mentioned that the grandfather of Mrs. Hill, Late Mr. Fredrick Buckner served as the Personal Assistant to the Late Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal during the year 1920-1925 and looked after accounts and revenue collection of the erstwhile Kingdom of Sikkim. Interestingly, the father of Mrs. Hill , Mr. Derek Buckner also stayed in Sikkim as a kid of 3 to 8 years during his father Late Fredrick’s five year stay in the palace and attended schools in Darjeeling and Shimla with Prince of Sikkim. Mrs. Hill also handed over an original diary of her Late grandfather containing the detailed tour report of the various public schemes and projects that he inspected during his service at the palace in Sikkim from 1920 to 1925. Hon’ble Governor acknowledged their goodwill of Mrs and Mr.Hill in handing over such artefacts of historical significance to Sikkim and extended good wishes for their memorable stay in Sikkim.
