Understanding the Progressive Mind Yesterday I drove to - TopicsExpress

Understanding the Progressive Mind Yesterday I drove to Charlottesville for a class. I do not take the route that most people in this area take although I too used to go travel that route (460, 15, and 20). I had the side mirror of a vehicle taken off one morning near Scottsville on Route 20. We all know that route 20 is a horrible road, impossible to make good time on. People driving like they’re taking vacation on a dollar’s worth of gas, deer, farm equipment, curves and two lanes with few passing zones. It can be a stressful drive if you have an appointment time to keep. The Progressive wants to reap the most out of his/her investments and this goes for highways. I opt to go 360, 288, and 64. It’s a given my way is longer and puts extra miles on a vehicle so there is the Liberal “spend” part of the Progressive’s mind. The added cost to travel the Progressive way is 15 miles. My vehicle is a lease and the rate is .25 per mile I go over the 15,000 allowed annually. This is my third lease vehicle and I’ve never gone over but if I do this time the cost would be $3.75 for traveling the Progressive route. That’s a little over the cost of a gallon of gas. It is still money spent and with no money coming in at the moment where do I get the “extra” $3.75? Now let’s look at gas mileage. Yesterday my vehicle got an average of 20.6 miles per gallon. This is the best MPG I have gotten since I leased the vehicle in April. Driving to RVA the best it’s gotten is 17.8 MPG. With a Hemi there is no way it would have averaged the 17.8 taking Route 20 but to be Liberal in this example I’ll use the 17.8 MPG for comparison. Route 20, the shortest route, to Charlottesville is 90 miles. Based on $3.25 a gallon for gasoline the cost to take the shortest route is $16.43. To go the Progressive route cost $16.56. This leaves a deficit of 0.13. Now add in brake and tire wear and the .13 is covered. As stated, I used a very Liberal MPG for the shortest route yet the Progressive route is really the most Conservative way to go. At the end of the day the Progressive mind saved money, traveled a safer route and did not get stressed out by Farmer Jones taking his tractor 10 miles down the road.
