Unusual tour opportunity to Lower Egypt! Societies unite! TVAES and SES as Barry Kemp is our president :). Rare opportunity also to see Elena Pischikova who will be concurrently leading the dig at the South Asasif Tombs Current UK Gov travel info attached also Thames Valley Ancient Egypt Society has revived its plan (now for Spring 2015) to run a study tour to Lower Egypt, to include the Faiyum, Alexandria and the Delta (as far as the sites of Tell el-Maskhuta and Tell Dafna/Defennneh). The costs of the tour include a donation to the Amarna Trust to assist the continuation of work at Amarna. The detailed schedule and booking documents are attached. Core Tour Dates : Tuesday April 21st to Monday May 4th 2015 (with Professor Barry Kemp, Dr Rawia Ismail, John Billman ) LUXOR Extension - Thebes in the First Millennium : Monday 4th May 2015 to Saturday May 9th 2015 (with Dr Elena Pischikova, John Billman, local guide) This Study Tour to Egypt is designed to provide and unusual and comprehensive tour of the sites of the Delta and the Faiyum. It is a busy tour but there will also be the opportunity for tour participants to proceed at their own pace as far as possible. The trip will be led by Professor Barry Kemp, guided by Dr Rawia Ismail and accompanied by John Billman. The tour is being organized in conjunction with Great Wonders of Egypt (a related company to Gateway to Egypt which has UK banking facilities), who have been used by previously by the Thames Valley Ancient Egypt Society and the Amarna Trust. It is important to note that this is not a formal group arranged by the Thames Valley Ancient Egypt Society, but a group of like-minded adventurers travelling together on what promises to be a very exciting trip. Travellers contractual agreement for the trip will be with the tour organizer Great Wonders of Egypt and not John Billman or TVAES. ****************** As for the remainder of the Nile Valley to the south, recently the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office altered the map on its web site which defines the areas (coloured orange and red) which it considers advisable for travellers to avoid. The eastern edge of the orange area which still covers much of the western desert has now been moved westwards, leaving the entire Nile Valley (including Middle Egypt and thus Amarna) free and thus in the green zone to which specific negative travel advice does not apply.
