Upon a scandalous verdict about Devrimci Karargah trial, a press conference has been held in Human Rights Association’s Istanbul Branch Office. Court’s verdict is as follows: Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) Chairperson Rıdvan Turan received 7 years and 1 month of imprisonment, SDP Executive Committee Member Ulaş Bayraktaroğlu 6 years and 8 months, SDP Party Council member İbrahim Turgut 11 years 3 months, SDP Party Council member Ecevit Piroğlu 6 years 3 months, People’s Democratic Congress (HDP) Executive Committee Member Günay Kubilay 6 years 3 months, Human Rights Association (İHD) member Sultan Seçik Kubilay 6 years 3 months, Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) Co Chairperson Tuncay Yılmaz 9 years 2 months, Social Freedom Party Initiative (TÖP-G) member Semih Aydın 6 years 3 months, Osman Baha Okar, editor of Bilim ve Gelecek journal, 6 years 3 months, Red journal author Hakan Soytemiz 8 years 9 months. In the press conference, it has been emphasized that many legal political institutions, organizations and people with nothing in common except being socialists have been gathered into one bag case with false accusations and fake evidence and the main aim was to discredit them by trying side by side with a torturer and murderer ex police officer. Rıdvan Turan: “We saw the message and return it likewise” After stating that the trial has been a law scandal, SDP Chairperson Rıdvan Turan added “Now the demon is out of the bottle and is gone mad attacking furiously. State and the ruling mind have sent a message to all leftists and socialists through our party. We saw the message and return it likewise. I want everyone to know that no matter whatever the circumstances be, we will never give up our struggle for revolution and socialism and we will do whatever necessary just as we did yesterday. We are not surprised by the assaults on resistance that started with Gezi Park. Attitude of the state against this resistance is an ordinary state of affairs of class struggle.” Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Chairperson Figen Yüksekdağ said “This decision is a part of systematic state terror. They want to stop socialists; they are trying to ban politics by even punishing chairpersons of parties. Today they are even trying to illegalize Taksim Solidarity. We will not surrender. Now it is time to raise the revolutionary solidarity.” Laborer Movement Party (EHP) Chairperson Sibel Uzun condemned the court verdict and added “We have defeated this unlawful trial with ‘Who’s Next Initiative’ once and we will do it again. Our friends from SDP are honor and pride of public opposition.” HDK Executive Committee Member Ender İmrek said that this trial is redemption for Gezi resistance and the punishment is given to SDP. He continued saying “They are trying to convict revolutionist as public opposition rises. Today, these socialists are the honor of public opposition.” Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) İstanbul Province Chairperson Hüseyin Karabulut said, “I can’t find anything to say but ‘Whoaa’ when it comes to Devrimci Karargah trial. Everyone knows this trial is completely nonsense and has no legitimacy. We are with our friend from SDP and will never give up.” Vice President of Labor Party (EMEP) K. Tekin Sürek said that this trial was a complete comedy and “This trial has been made vain by the public opposition and will never be accepted.” General Secretary of Peoples’ Houses (Halkevleri) Nuri Günay said, “This kind of mass torts aims to suppress public opposition. We will not buy this. We are with Socialist Democracy Party.” İHD Branch Executive Sebla Arcan said “This trial is a big step to ‘discipline’ the democratic politics.
