Very unhappy today. Came home last night to find Ollie (olive red collar lorikeet) loose in the house. On investigation, saw that the house had been invaded by a carpet snake who was still in the nesting box of the inside cage. Jade, my beautiful hand-raised jade rainbow died protecting her eggs. Pete removed the snake. Kids were screaming and crying as our lorries are a beloved part of our pet family (a bit like dogs but very bright jokers). Ollie was in shock and was so traumatised at losing his mate and escaping the snake he hasnt let me (mum) out of his sight willingly since. So for the second night running I am being flock - and have a little perch set up on my bedside table with a towel so Ollie can sleep near me, rather than alone in the big cage. Pete is being very supportive, but Maia the cat is less than impressed. Will have to get another baby to hand raise ASAP for company for Ollie, as he has never been the only lorikeet before. The pics are Jade with her stuffie Fat Lorrie, flying and with Ollie in the outside cage.
