Very very much looking forward to being part of this on October 3rd.. All welcome.. come and have a go at conducting an improvising orchestra! FUSEBOX @ LIGHT NIGHT FRIDAY 3 OCT - CARRIAGEWORKS THEATRE 5 - 10 PM Fusebox presents a night of improvised music... Come and listen to the sounds of the Leeds improvising community with the chance to conduct the band yourself. Manipulate, gesticulate and pull faces at them, or otherwise coerce them into playing the music you want to hear! Tonight, for one night only, the improvisers of Leeds are under your control. A night of interactive improvised music, free and open to all members of the public, celebrating Leeds rich heritage and ongoing subculture of improvised and creative music making. The event will focused on shifting the control of the music from the musicians to the audience. Members of the public will be invited to have a go at controlling the band through simple gestures, facial expressions, and even dance; the musicians will then interpret these to create new, uniquely collaborative, pieces of music. The large ensemble performances will be interspersed with small group sets ranging from soloists to quartets. This will provide the audience with a range of ensembles to experience, and allow the musicians to have breaks whilst the event continues. The audience will be free to come in and out, interact or listen at any time during the evening adding to the welcoming and playful atmosphere. Leeds is internationally renowned in the improvised music community as one of the birthplaces of the British free improv scene. There is still a vibrant underground scene in the city with the support of the Fusebox monthly sessions and regular informal performances. Fusebox is an organisation that supports creative, experimental and improvised music in Leeds, continuing in the spirit of the Termite Club and LIMA. This band will come together especially for Light Night and will feature the most experienced and internationally acclaimed improvisers in Leeds, including: Matthew Bourne (Matthew Bourne), Richard Ormrod (A Dread Supreme), Dave Kane (BDK), Joost Hendrickx (Shiver), Maria Jardardottir (Røyst), Craig Scott (Craig Scott’s Lobotomy), Seth Bennett (Bennett-Cole Orchestra), Laura Cole (Metamorphic), Johnny Richards (Shatner’s Bassoon), Oliver Dover (Shatner’s Bassoon, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra) Rommi Smith, and Michael Bardon (Shatner’s Bassoon). Its been 5 years since 2009 when LIMA presented a night of improvised music for Light Night at the Carriageworks. The finale - a large ensemble conducted by the audience – was so successful that we decided to focus this event entirely on that idea. These are some of their responses: Its an extraordinary sense of power, conducting the band. Not something I ever thought Id do! That was a lot of fun. They did everything I did!” I cant believe that you did all that without rehearsing, and youre all from Leeds? Wow! That was amazing! And I don’t even like jazz – was that jazz?” Come and experience a night of (improvised) music that has never been heard before and will never be heard again.
