Vice Mayor Mike Tañedos Biography (Courtesy to the Tarlac City Governments Official Website) The public life of Mike Tañedo lies in both the worlds of business and politics. He excels in both, being a manager of his hotel and restaurant business and of course, being now a Vice Mayor, rising from a barangay councilor of Mabini, Municipal and City Councilor to his present position as Tarlac City Vice Mayor. Though he was born to one of the prominent families in Tarlac on May 8, 1952, he admits that he lived a very simple life, since his innate traits cater to the masses. His parent are Amado N. Tañedo and Ezperanza Aguas who are both native Tarlaqueños. He is married to Ma. Victoria Yapchingco with whom he has 4 children. As a young boy, Mike showed in inclination to business, as evidenced by bringing stuff purchased from other places and which he sold to his classmates for a profit during his elementary and high school days at Don Bosco Technical Institute. Though hid family is financially capable, he wanted to earn money on his own. He did odd jobs for relatives and friends, washing cars, painting fences, gardening and running errands. He believes that a man must live on his own. Entrepreneurship was his burning desire for he fervently believes that hard work is the only means to achieve one’s dream. Persistence and perseverance became his guiding principles in life. However, he needed to go to the city to pursue his college education. Being a very conscientious student he could not find time to other things other than school work. He graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in chemical Engineering. He is a licensed Chemical Engineer. Immediately after graduation, he attempted to put up a business of his own, but wanting in capital, He decided to get employed and save. He was hired as a Plant Supervisor at the CAT Planter’s Association, San Miguel, Tarlac City, to protect and safeguard the right of sugar cane planters. His natural love for service was first manifested in his employment. Though frustration followed him whatever he went, his patience and determination helped him to conquer his adversities. He was optimistic that he will reach the turning point of his life as an ordinary citizen to a political figure, and his dream came true. His political career began when he was elected as a barangay councilor in Mabini, Tarlac City in 1988. From then on, he became a municipal councilor, city councilor and ultimately a Vice Mayor in two election years, 2001 and 2007 at the same year 2007 he elected President of the Vice Mayor’s League-Tarlac Chapter. Presently he is the President of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines-Central Luzon, a most prestigious office in association of government officials. Nonetheless, his natural penchant for business still remained in his heart, and was revived when he saw the frequent need of a place for people to relax and entertain guest during special occasions. With only a few thousand pesos on hand and augmented by a loan, he established the San Isidro Farmhouse and Restaurant and his business expanded in time. Wanting to have his hands on in the business, he took up culinary arts, did the cooking at the restaurant and passed on this expertise to his daughter who now manages the business. As a municipal and city councilor he authored several resolutions and ordinances, among which are the creation of a Philhealth capitalization fund for the indigent families of Tarlac City, fixing the fare rates of tricycle for hire within the limits of Tarlac city and imposing panalties for the violation thereof, granting financial assistance to families of deceased members of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs, ordinance approving the proposed Local Incentive Code for Tarlac City, and many others. His dream for Tarlac City is but plain and simple – to make it one of the best cities in Central Luzon, if not in the whole country. He is all set to accomplish his office’s VISION and MISSION. Despite his numerous accomplishments and recognitions he has remained simple and unaffected. He is still the same Uncle Mike, who will offer a helping hand wherever he may go.
