~WARNING~ This is a rant, it is only a rant....but I had to get it off my chest and who would understand better than hard-working, document searching genealogist/family historians? Let me just preface this by saying the subject of this article has nothing to do with the steam coming from my ears!!!! It is that an established and trusted business has made a statement they cannot confirm as true and asked that we accept it on the grounds of their (previously trusted) reputation! First, no one...not one single person knows who the very first slave was in this country! John Punch may have been the first documented slave, but Im certain there were others before him. Secondly, I LOVE the statement made by a Third Party in case intelligent people question the whole article....here it is... “A careful consideration of the evidence convinces me that the Y-DNA evidence of African origin is indisputable, and the surviving paper trail points solely to John Punch as the logical candidate. Genealogical research on individuals who lived hundreds of years ago can never definitively prove that one man fathered another, but this research meets the highest standards and can be offered with confidence.” There is no tangible proof! How many newbies will now use I dont have any proof but John Doe is the logical candidate so.... Id bet if I offered the same type of statement as above as proof of my ancestry to the DAR or the UDC, it would be laughed into the garbage can!
