WATER EMERGENCY ... customers of City of Toledo water -- which includes people living in Ottawa Hills -- should not drink or use city water for the time being. According to city officials, dangerous levels of microcystins have been found in the water supply. BOILING WATER WILL NOT MAKE IT SAFE TO DRINK. The water should not be given to pets. The Toledo water system gets its water from Lake Erie, and appears to have been impacted by a harmful algal bloom. Consuming these toxins may result in abnormal liver function, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, numbness or dizziness. Skin contact with these toxins can cause irritation or rashes.
