Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained by them in this examination, Post-wise, depending on the number of vacancies for respective post, for appearing in the Combined Graduate Level (Mains) Examination, 2014 / Interview. Details of the CGL (Preliminary) Examination, 2014:- Total Marks 150 Total Number of Questions 135 Type of Question Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) Time allotted One and Half Hours (90 Minutes) Subject wise Break up of Marks:- Subject Topic Standard Maximum number of Questions Marks allotted per Question Total Marks General Knowledge Physics Madhyamik or equivalent 50 1 50 Chemistry Biology History Geography Civics General Knowledge – National General General Knowledge – International Know your State / Current Affairs General Knowledge - Art & Culture General Knowledge – Sports General Knowledge – Abbreviations Test of Reasoning Computer 2 English Comprehension Higher Secondary or equivalent 55 1 55 Grammar Sentence Corrections Synonyms & Antonyms Spelling Idioms / Phrases Mathematics Average Madhyamik or equivalent 30 1.5 45 Ratio & Proportion Percentage Simple interest Profit & Loss Time & Distance / Time & Work Algebra Trigonometry & Geometry Mensuration Grand Total 135 150 b) Mains Examination:- Candidates applied either for the post of Research Investigator or for Fishery Extension Officer or for both are to be shortlisted, Post-wise and Category / Sub Category wise, on the basis of marks secured by them in the Preliminary Examination and depending on the vacancy for the concerned post, for respective Category / Sub Category. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to appear directly in the Interview. There will be no separate Mains Examination for these two posts. Whereas, Candidates applied either for the post of Inspector, Backward Classes Welfare or for Minority Development Officer or for both are to be shortlisted, Post-wise and Category / Sub Category wise, on the basis of marks secured by them in the Preliminary Examination and depending on the vacancy for the concerned post, for respective Category / Sub Category. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to appear in the Combined Graduate Level (Mains) Examination, 2014. i) Syllabus of the Mains Examination will be as the following:- Subject Topic Marks Allotted Nature of Question Time allotted Language Proficiency Test English Précis Writing 25 Descriptive Two Hours (120 Minutes) English Report Writing 25 Essay Writing in any of the following language:- English / Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali 25 Letter Writing in any of the following language:- English / Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali 25 Grand Total 100 Descriptive 2 hours 3 c) Interview: The Scheme of Interview for the posts will be as the following:- For the Post of Inspector Backward Classes Welfare and / or Minority Development Officer, Candidates shortlisted on the basis of total marks obtained by them in Preliminary and Mains Examination will only be asked to appear in the Interview, to be conducted Post-wise. Whereas for the Post of Fishery Extension Officer and / or Research Investigator, Candidates shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained by them in Preliminary Examination will only be asked to appear in the Interview, to be conducted Post- wise.
