Sabino tells jose miguel that ivana told him she had heard when valentina had ordered rosendo to poison the cattle and that the ring is proof that valentina herself had set fire to his house with mr federico inside. Jose miguel refuses to believe that. Jose miguel asks ivana to be honest and tell him the truth. She scheming tells him that she saw his father arguing with valentina even though she didn’t know the reason. After that, she went to see his father and valentina was already setting fire to the house. Valentina demands rosendo to tell her why he is against the montesinos. Rosendo tells her that all he wanted was to annoy jose miguel but that he doesn’t want to anymore, because he has managed to make them quarrel because he loves her so much that although she will never be his, she won’t be anybody else’s either. Valentina tells him that she is not in the habit of taking other people’s feelings lightly but she forbids him to speak to her about his own or else, she will be forced to fire him. Beside himself, jose miguel shows valentina the engagement ring he had given to her and he demands that she tell him why she argued with his father. Valentina tries to explain that she did speak with him but that they never argued. Jose miguel warns her that if they ever prove that she killed his father, she will regret it. Rosendo mockingly tells jose miguel to give his condolences to his mother; he receives a blow in the face as an answer. The municipal commissioner tells jose miguel he has to investigate the fire in sabino’s home. Ivana hypocritically hints that valentina was the one to blame for it. Jose miguel tells ivana that he realizes that she is very keen on seeing her cousin end up in prison. Ivana tells him that all she wants is for justice to be done. Gabriela insists on making valentina explain the situation to jose miguel so he stops thinking she is a murderer. Counselor galeana arrives at los cascabeles. Ivana is stunned when mrs leonor tells her that valentina couldn’t have set fire to sabino’s home because she is not wicked enough to kill and she had no reason to do so either; whereas rosendo gavilan did have a reason to do it.
