The Northern Ireland international, 35, is set to become just the fourth Claret in the 21st century to reach that milestone - and only the 29th in the club’s history. Michael, who joined the club in July 2004, is only the second Burnley outfield player to top 300 games since the turn of the century, joining Steve Davis, who played 388 senior games for the club in three spells between 1989 and 2003. Duff action 1 morecambe Brian Jensen, of course, was the previous Burnley player to join the 300 club, completing 310 outings for the Clarets when he made an emotional final appearance as a late substitute in the final match of last season. Goalkeeper Marlon Beresford completes this illustrious post-2000 quartet, with 350 senior appearances for the Clarets in three spells at Turf Moor between 1992 and 2003. The only other Burnley player with over 300 appearances to his name since the dark days of the late 1980’s is Andy Farrell, with 331 games under his belt between 1987 and 1994. Andy is still at Turf Moor of course, as a valued member of the youth coaching team, and is still the only player to appear for the Clarets twice at Wembley, in 1988 and 1994. Meanwhile, manager Sean Dyche is urging his players to carry on where they left off last week in tonight’s Capital One Cup tie against Nottingham Forest. The Clarets picked up seven points in the last nine to move into second place in the Championship table. Burnley have also taken the lead in every game bar one this season in league and cup- that coming in the only league defeat so far, at Brighton. And Dyche is looking for more of the same against Billy Davies’s side, with a place in the last 16 up for grabs. He said: “We spoke about many things during the summer and one of them is to start the game in the right manner. “You can’t guarantee you score, of course, but just starting in a positive manner on the front foot can allow you to take a stronghold of the game.” Midfielder David Jones is set to miss out against Forest after picking up a bad cut to the ankle at the weekend, which thankfully did not require stitches. And the Clarets boss could make more changes against a Forest side also expected to shuffle their squad. Dyche added: “Forest have a big squad. They changed virtually the whole side last time, but it was still a side that you knew would compete. “So we have to be aware of that, but we are building some good things here and the players on the periphery have been ready. “We have a real thirst about the squad so whatever side we get out there I am sure they will be ready to go. “The way the lads have been performing, they look forward to every game and another win at Leeds sets us up nicely for tonight and Forest.
