WHEN POLITICAL CONNECTIONS AND DODGY TENDERS COST LIVES: HOW EVERYBODY FEEL ABOUT THE PASTOR BEING USED AS SPIN-DOCTOR One thing is certain: Jay Singh would make a much better spin-doctor than Mac Maharaj! After ignoring a notice to stop the mall development because his plans were not passed, directly resulting in the building in question to become a maze of tangled concrete, and being responsible for a death, and injuries to countless others, laying low for a week, despite being hunted by the press - he makes us all gasp with his next move... He sends his pastor (and close friend) putting the following spin on events: * Controversial businessman Jay Singh was standing just metres away from the concrete slab of the Tongaat Mall when it caved in on Tuesday afternoon. Singh saw some construction workers fall three floors to the ground while others tried to scramble to safety. “He could hear people screaming. There was chaos all around him. But he remained at the scene for over an hour. He did not shy away. He even spoke to the media at the scene.” * He claims that he was doing a weekly site inspection at the R300 million shopping centre. * He claims to have been one of the first people to call for the police and ambulance. Singh and his foreman rushed to the ground floor and tried to help the injured, Singh’s pastor and close friend, Mervin Reddy said. * Singh was in shock at what had happened but was determined to get to the bottom of what caused the concrete slab to cave in. * “The slab that collapsed cost more than R80 million to build. Jay had hired the best in the business – engineers, architects and building contractors – to work on this mall. * “He is baffled by what has happened. Three independent companies have been hired to investigate the cause of the collapse. A preliminary report should be made available soon.” Singh pledged to remain transparent throughout the investigation and make the report public as soon as it was finalised. Singh was committed to co-operating with the Department of Labour, the city and police. “He has nothing to hide. He did nothing wrong. Why should he hide?” * “Jay, his wife, Shireen, and their four children – including his eldest son, Ravi – are traumatised. In fact, their daughter is in matric and this had really taken a toll on her.” * “He also wants to assist the family of the dead woman with the funeral costs. He is a generous man and will do whatever needs to be done to help.” He said Singh was devastated that a life had been lost. “It’s one death too many. It should never have happened... * Reddy said while the city was calling to condemn the building, Singh was committed to seeing the project through. “This is one of his biggest projects on the North Coast. He does not want to abandon it. He wants to give the people of Tongaat what he promised them – a vibrant mall with trendy stores.” Reddy said Singh would fight to clear his name and complete the mall project, because “He outlayed cash for this project. He will not allow it to go down the drain. * “Yes, he does know influential people. But it’s silly to suggest he will use them to get out of this. How can anyone cover up what has happened?” Only problem is absolutely no one is falling for it. We amuse you with a few comments reflecting the general feeling of the majority of online comments: ABOUT THE PASTOR: Katherine Reddy: As for Reddy you should be ashamed of yourself , how can you even say that Mr Singh is a man of generosity , when he illegally walk into his tenants homes in phoenix flat and throw they thing on the streets not caring whether there have a place to go to or are living in the streets . It not generosity that he is feeling for the family of the deceased its more like guilt . Zulu Monarchy: The say birds of the same feather flock together. What kind of a questionable Pastor (is he) that goes to a site whose operations are declared illegal and unlawful by the court of law and the municipality.I hope his congregation really takes serious action against this idiotic pastor Amatshevane: In most cases (not all though) people rush to Pastors when there is a SIN element in the situation. Just saying. Thabang Bonang: The only honesty I see on the article is the statement “He outlayed cash for this project. He will not allow it to go down the drain.... That talking about an unapproved project. That sums up everything about the controversial businessman Jay Singh. Sorry Pastor but we cant be brainwashed by your comments about this clearly corrupt man ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER: Fitch99: Poor millionaires daughter, completely traumatised by those construction workers who you heard about that were killed or injured several tens of kilometers away from your mansion. It must be so terrible for you. Funny how this whole article sounds like a pre-emptive defence designed to make Jay Singh seem like a concerned philanthropist, instead of a short-cutting greedy tenderpreneur who put peoples lives at risk for his own profit. Rhyno08: Why is the Daughter so traumatised?? She wasnt there, looking for an excuse for [censored] results in her exams?? hassan soni: Daddy promised her a car after matric - thats on ice(concrete) now. Gov will give him another housing project so he can under deliver and buy a merc for the poor girl :( ABOUT JAY SINGH: gopalkrishna42: YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID TO THOSE POOR HARDWWORKING PEOPLE OF VERULAM. EVERYMORNING THEY GOT UP TO BE GREETED BY HUMAN EXCRETA FROM HOMES HIGHER UP BECAUSE OF YOUR POOR WORKMANSHIP. THEY BEGGED YOU FOR HELP BUT YOU IGNORED THEIR PLEAS YOU BASTARD. Neo: Reddy said Singh pledged to remain transparent throughout the investigation and make the report public as soon as it was finalized He sounds like our president another corrupt lying piece of [censored] Ren: The only shock you experienced, sir, was the financial repercussions shock. mthamayza: cheap stunt Reddy ,i want you behind bars Ugan: Whats next - own TV station? Over It: surely you would want to cut your losses and bow out of the development. because sure as nuts i wont step foot inside that mall if it gets finished. Black_Sam: Singh had sent a delegation to visit the injured workers in hospital. Too afraid and yellow to face those injured workers and their families. This man is really despicable. oubaas: Insurance will pay him out for his 80million. he will lose nothing. the building will be complete by the expected date, and all the tenants will move in and pay him rent. capitalism in motion. AbsolutelyNoClue: “He outlayed cash for this project. He will not allow it to go down the drain And there we have it folks, the reason safety procedures were not followed, stop orders ignored. Politically connected scum were about to lose money, that is much more important than anything else isnt it? Disgusting family, disgusting businessmen. But lets all feel bad for his daughter in matric, rather she doesnt have such stress and let potentially thousands be crushed later on. IN CLOSING: On Wednesday police spokeswoman Mandy Govender said that “a case of culpable homicide has been opened by police” over the incident, but added that investigations are still ongoing and she could not say who would be charged.
