WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BILLY? 9th September, 2014 According to my original travel plans, I should be in Freetown right now. And I know many of you have been praying for me and wondering what is happening with me as you get the news concerning the largest Ebola outbreak to ever happen. This is serious business. Here are the latest WHO figures” Ebola casualties Up to 5 September 2,105 Ebola deaths - probable, confirmed and suspected • 1,089 Liberia • 517 Guinea • 491 Sierra Leone • 8 Nigeria Source: WHO First let me assure you all that I am okay. I am still in the Philadelphia area. My return flight was booked on British Airways to leave Philly September 7th and arrive in Freetown September 8th. They of course have decided that they would not be flying to Freetown, Sierra Leone or Monrovia, Liberia until after 31st December of this year. Besides taking time for personal vacation to spend with my children and grandchildren, my main reason for being here in the US and in England before that was to raise funds for the organization that I work for- DISCET. Up to the end of August, I had not raised any support, so with the travel cancellations I requested permission from the Board of Governors of DISCET to extend my stay so I could make more contacts and this was approved. This is a very vital moment for us, the Ebola outbreak has caused tremendous economic distress, people are not allowed to travel freely around the country, cost of living has risen higher, our local currency has lost value, what goods and services that are available now cost a whole lot more because flights and shipments have been curtailed. DISCET was founded in 1998 to minister to people traumatized by 11 years of war, now the Ebola outbreak with its death tolls, rumors and misinformation networks is going to add to our clientele. I thank God for very reliable staff who are currently working in the office in Freetown under very difficult conditions. As much as I would love to be with them right now, it is more vital that I be able to raise funds for our operation. I am working with my travel agent to get me a booking in the middle of October, hoping and praying that things would be under control by then. What I need to do in the next few weeks is share with as many people the work that we do in Sierra Leone, and increase our support base. I have a 10-12 minute PowerPoint presentation I would love to share in churches, civic groups etc. Please let me know if you are interested. For now I am here, just outside Philadelphia and my heart and prayers are with my folks in Sierra Leone. Thank you for your prayers. Billy
