WHO WAS ABU ALA AL-MAARI? Al-Ma‘arri (full name in Arabic: أبو العلاء أحمد بن عبد الله بن سليمان التنوخي المعري, Abu al-Alā Ahmad ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sulaimān al-Tanūkhī al-Maarri, December 26, 973–May 10 or May 21, 1057) was a syrian blind philosopher, poet and writer. He was a controversial rationalist of his time, attacking the dogmas of religion and rejecting the claim that Islam possessed any monopoly on truth. According to abu ala almaarri there are two classes of men: 1-Intelligent ment without religion. 2-Religious men without intelligence. abu ala al-mari lived in syria aournd 250 years after the death of muahmmad. he rejected islam and all other religions in his poetry. that was the time when people would be killed for renouncing islam. but he still did. his poetry is still available on internet. collection of his poetry is still available on amazon. think critically, zulfiqar tareen, a friend of all, enemy of none. facebook/zulfitareen1
