WILL FLAMENCO DANCE WITH LIVE GUITAR DIE OUT IN SOUTH AFRICA? ARE THE FLAMENCO DANCERS GOING TO USE RECORDINGS? Because of the difficulty and complexity of flamenco, playing the flamenco guitar is very difficult. There not many flamenco guitarists,who live outside of Spain, who accompany singers and dancers. Over the past 45 to 50 years there were only 5 professional flamenco guitarists,who could accompany dancers, residing in South Africa. Flamenco doyen Pablo Navarro and Santiago had passed on and Al-Farid,who was the last to receive the flamenco baton 35 years ago, has not been been performing for years. There at present only two flamenco guitarists,who accompany dancers, in South Africa viz. Demi Fernandes in Natal and Bienyameen Camroodien in Cape Town. The future of live flamenco in this country lies in the hands of the new generation of flamenco guitarists. Do you think these youngsters have what it takes? Luca (21) and Dawood (14) play a short bulerias ,which is the most difficult flamenco guitar rhythm.
