WOW! 2014 has been such an incredible year for music. HERE ARE MY ALBUMS OF THE YEAR!! I strongly urge you to check out all of these bands as they are amazing and wonderful and great and pretty. Theres some rap on here, some metal, and a whole lot of post rock. Go find some new music! Open your mind and dive into something new! #1: Tides of Man - Young and Courageous: Gorgeous, crystal-clear post rock best track: https://youtube/watch?v=mxaZ1n0Cj6o This album came out in February and nothing has come close to touching it since then. Gorgeous and well-composed post rock produced in stunning detail. This album is huge and pretty and you will like it regardless of your favorite genres. #2: Autumn Creatures - Blue Forest EP: When I close my eyes, we are together best track: https://youtube/watch?v=DJ--dxjWS5Y A local band out of Colorado Springs, Autumn Creatures has been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now, and they have truly outdone themselves here. Beautiful, epic soundscapes fill up the entire space of the song and they just build and build until they crash down around you. Not to mention a beautifully-written narrative that leaves you a little down and a little hopeful. I cant wait to hear more from these dudes. #3: Allegaeon - Elements of the Infinite: Fast, brutal death metal best track: https://youtube/watch?v=2lBzvEfYYoQ Not everyone like death metal, which is fair. But if you do, or if youre willing to try it out, this album is a fantastic intro point. Fast, brutal, precise, and riddled with technique I only dream of having, Ezras screaming about science pairs wonderfully with Greg and Michaels guitars as they shred through an adrenaline-filled 50 minutes. These guys are Denver locals so try to give them some love. #4: set and setting - A Vivid Memory: Etheral, crushing post metal best track: https://youtube/watch?v=aI1yLSn7VgU THIS BAND WRITES THE PRETTIEST MOST CRUSHINGEST POST METAL EVER. This double-length album is one non-stop thrill ride through ups and downs and lows and highs and cleans and distortions and gorgeous melodies and syncopated drum breaks. As far as Im concerned, both of these Florida-local bands albums are masterpieces of the genre. Every new release from them from here on out will come on baited breath, these dudes are definitely one of my new favorite bands. #5: Run The Jewels - Run the Jewels 2: Could it be the man behind the man behind the man behind the throne? best track: https://youtube/watch?v=GOYA48d4Bks These guys are insane! Something about the way their voices are recorded makes it nearly impossible to latch onto their flow, providing a cerebral and ultimately weird listening experience. Well produced, well written, and well performed, this is definitely one of the premier rap albums of the year.
