WTSA Morning news brought to you by The Cheshire Horse Route 10 Swanzey An escapee from the prison work farm in Windsor has been recaptured. Vermont State Police Captain Ray Keefe said 23 year old Anthony Fitzgerald was recaptured thanks to a citizen tip Monday afternoon. Fitzgerald, originally from Rutland, was reportedly working outside at the farm portion of the correctional facility Monday, when he cut the wire fence to escape. He’d been serving time for a conviction on a charge of lewd conduct with a child. Brattleboro select board members will discuss how to move forward with the police and fire project tonight. The Police-Fire Facilities Building Committee held a meeting last week to discuss options for moving forward. In addition, board members will continue talking about how human service funding fits in to the annual budget, and discuss the possible mission for a regional economic hub study group. The Board will enter into executive session at 5:15pm to discuss contractual matters and reconvene the regular business meeting at 6:15pm. Drivers are being asked to slow down in the area near Beaver Brook in Keene, where maintenance work is being done later this week. Thursday and Friday, a contractor working on behalf of the City will be applying a state approved herbicide for the treatment of invasive species along the Brook corridor from Water Street to Marlboro Street. If time permits, additional areas along Beaver Brook extending from Water Street to Baker Street to Rte. 101, will also be treated . Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin says Republican challenger Scott Milne had it wrong when he said he would want to be a boring leader and not make big changes. Shumlin says the job of governor is to make tough decisions and invest in jobs and economic opportunity. Shumlin is seeking his third two-year term. Milne spoke of being a boring governor during a recent debate. Shumlin said hes concerned that Milne wants to be governor but seems to have no idea what he would do when he gets there. Milne said Monday that Shumlin has failed to lead and failed to deliver for Vermonters. He says jobs are scarce and the health care system is a mess. In their first debate, Republican Scott Brown missed no chance to call U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen a rubber stamp for the Obama administration, while she waited until the end to say her opponent doesnt understand the New Hampshire economy. Debating in North Conway on Monday, Shaheen repeatedly mentioned legislation she worked on with Republicans to counter Browns rubber-stamp charge. And in her closing statement, she highlighted bills Brown opposed as a Massachusetts senator that would have helped New Hampshires small businesses.
