Below is an open letter by Kevin Ward, Jr.s Aunt Wendi. You can read it in the USA Today article below. Here is my response... Wendi Ward, your nephew attacked a moving race car because he was out of his mind insane at the moment of his death. Whether you want to believe he was high or not is not germane. He was altered enough to impair his judgement and he essentially committed suicide by jumping on a moving Sprint Car like Tarzan and got thrown to his death. Whether your family wishes to believe it or not, the kid earned his fate. Sorry, but thats reality. Moreover, Tony has handled this entire situation with humility and grace while your family has shown its collective ass to the general public. I doubt youd have that same 1500 people show up for his memorial service now. Theyd surely want to distance themselves from a driver who smokes pot before he gets in a race car (within two hours of competition) and gets out of his race car like a lunatic when he cant handle a slide job and puts himself into the wall. And theyd surely want to distance themselves from your familys unseemly and embarrassing actions since. Show some respect for your dead nephews memory and stop drawing attention to yourselves. Because you are only showing us why he reacted the way he did. Its obviously a family trait to act like an ass... Bottom line is, Kevin Ward died by his own doing, and whether or not his family wants to acknowledge this fact, it does not change it from being a historical reality. No matter how much they choose to cover their eyes and ears to reason.
