Warning: do not read this post if you are easily distressed Status post by Lillian Minei, posted 19 September 2014 It was @ 0600am 18/09/14. I was about to have breakfast when my son went, mum, theres a landcruizer at the gate, someone wants to see you. I looked out and saw a TLC and a young man walked towards the house. I looked at him and he went.. Mi pikinini blong Joshua ( Joshua is my immediate supervisor, my colleague). I went OMG! what is it? He went, he had an accident, the TLC he drove is at Ghu Stge 2. I asked, how is he? He went , hes at 3 mile hospital. I said WTF! How is he? Hes at the emergency. I asked again... how is he? He goes.... hes not well. Got into my car, I arrived at PMGH in less than 4 minutes. Walked into emergency and found him with his wife by his side. He was motionless, his face half covered in blood. I was speechless. Looking at his wife, I saw tears in her eyes. I turned towards the wall almost in tears when I heard a very soft voice saying..... Pottsy, mi orait. I turned around and I saw him looking at me but I could see him in extreme pain. I asked... What happened? He went , mi dring.. I knew he was drunk and drove home. All of a sudden, he screamed in pain. His back was burning with pain. He couldnt move his legs, his face had a deep cut and a young doctor came and had it patched up with 14 stitches. Hes been in the emergency since 1200 am 18/09. He was not attended to, until I arrived after 0600am. I was told that No doctors had seen him. What pissed me of was.. As I was there , they brought in two young boys about 10/11 years old. A drunken driver ran over them as I was told. One of them died 15 minutes later while the other one was fighting for his life. No doctors attended to them. On the floor was this woman who had knife wounds on her left arm, her right arm, on the right side of her neck and her left wrist. She was attacked in a Bus # 4 at 2 mile hill, by a group of boys who got into the bus and robbed the passengers when the bus stopped to pick up passengers. Although, this was an emergency room, about four Filipino nurses were sitting in the office and they were telling stories, laughing and talking as if they were in their houses. I couldnt hold back. Walked over to them and said.... Hey, what is happening here? This is supposed to be an emergency area, and you should be attending to patients immediately when they are brought here. What are you guys doing? Telling stories when people are almost dying? They just brought two boys.. one is struggling for his life, the other one is almost dying and there you are, talking and laughing away? They got up immediately and attended to the two young boys... I walked away to my car outside feeling mad and wishing I was not there. I imagined all those people who had been brought to PMGH Emergency room and are not attended to. What pissed me off is that... People are dying and no medical assistance is coming to them when they really needed them, yet the Prime Minister and his Health Minister boast and talk about their free health service and how good it is. Really it sucks! If PMGH, the nations premier hospital cant deal with its patients, I wonder how the other hospitals in the country can cope, let alone smaller hospitals and health centres in remote areas..
