Warrington iCAN: O2 Phishing Email Inbox x [email protected] 3:52 PM (5 hours ago) to me iCAN Warning: O2 Phishing Email Warrington Trading Standards are urging members to be wary of a scam email which appears to be from the digital communications company O2. The email claims that your O2 bill is ready to view and asks you to click on a link. This is a ‘phishing email’ – please DO NOT click on links and NEVER enter personal information. Phishing is when someone sends you an email pretending to be from a well-known organisation, like a bank or charity. Online criminals use phishing to steal personal information for fraud and identity theft. It is often easy to spot a phishing scam, lookout for spelling mistakes or a from address that doesnt match. Often you will find the company or organisation will demand that you take action straight away or risk having your account suspended. Frequently you will see a generic dear customer header and always suspect links with extra letters, numbers or substitutions. For example, a phishing scam trying to imitate O2 might replace the letter O with the number zero. If youre suspicious about an email, ignore it and contact your bank or service provider directly. Never call any telephone numbers that are provided in the suspect email.
