Was NOT such a good day yesterday. First thing, the apartment manager in Puerto Vallarta informed me that she had inadvertently gave away the apartment that I had reserved in July to another tenant because she lost my lease document. She offered me a choice of two other apartments when I get to PV and will compensate me for her mistake, whatever that means. Drove across the Mexico border to San Luis de Rio Colorado and stopped at the Immigration Office to get my Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for my SUV. I encountered a catch 22 situation with regard to my TIP and Residency Status. I dealt with a great Mexico Customs Officer and he bent the rules for me and the situation was resolved (with a generous propina of course). While I was in the Immigration Office, the San Luis Traffic Police wrote me a parking ticket for parking in a Taxi Only zone even though there were no parking signs on that street to indicate no parking! So off I went to Police Headquarters to pay the $7 parking fine. I complained to the official at the office there about no traffic signs and his response was everybody knows where no parking This all delayed my trip by 2 hours and was thinking going to miss Thursday Night Football in San Carlos. Then, two hours later when I drove through the town of Sonoyta, the Policia Federal pulled me over, The cop said that he stopped me because he thought that perhaps I was going in the wrong direction (probably because of my Polar Bear licence plates), but this time I was going in the RIGHT direction. Then the cop said I was speeding and he was going to write me a ticket.Now I am pissed and ranted to him about already getting a traffic ticket just two hours before and he wanted to see the receipt. I showed him the colourful 8x11 parking ticket receipt from San Luis that looks like a college diploma. I said OK in disgust and asked him where do I pay the traffic fine, he pointed off in some direction and then decided not to give me a ticket. In other words he gave up on trying to get a bribe out of me. Another delay (going to miss the football game). So far Uncle Me 5 - Policia Federal 0 in the bribe department. After all the delays I only managed to get to Hermosillo and DID miss the football game but got here in time for awesome live Salsa music and dance at the Machacas Bar next to my hotel. This Siesta Hotel, restaurant and bar in Hermosillo are among favourites in all of Mexico. Think I am going to stay here for 2 or 3 days and give the Policia Federal time to think of other ways to nail ol Uncle Mel when I continue my drive south.
