Watch: Mother of Japan hostage Kenji Goto makes last minute plea Mother of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, who has been taken hostage for a ransom by the Islamic State, asks for help to save her sons life By Charlotte Krol, and AP, video source APTN8:48AM GMT 23 Jan 2015 The deadline to pay ransom for two Japanese hostages of the Islamic State group expired on Friday, with the mother of one of the captives appealing for her sons rescue at the last minute. With time running short, the mother of one of the hostages, 47-year-old journalist Kenji Goto, appealed for understanding and urged the government to help him. Junko Ishido, who described herself as an educator, pleaded for the life of her son in a tearful appearance in Tokyo. Ms Ishido said she was astonished and angered to learn from her daughter-in-law that Goto had left less than two weeks after his child was born, in October, to go to Syria to try to rescue the other hostage, 42-year-old Haruna Yukawa. The status of efforts to free the two men was unclear, with hours to go before the presumed deadline. telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/islamic-state/11364504/Watch-Mother-of-Japan-hostage-Kenji-Goto-makes-last-minute-plea.html
