We close this Throwback Thursday #TBT with one of our most popular alums...the one...the only...Roma Tomato! If youve followed Merit for more than a few months, you know Roma. This snorty girl was with us for nearly 18 months and developed quite the following. She came to us as a stray, HW positive and with several health problems, including a condition causing severe dry eye which led her to be partially blind. She got rid of those nasty heartworms, started on meds for her eyes, got healthy, and then waited...and waited...and waited to find her forever family. Well, you know how that ended, right? Shes now living happily ever after and no princess ever deserved it more! Just check out pics of our sweet girl in her new home wearing her fancy goggles (which help her eyes). Thanks to Romas mom and day for staying in touch and for loving our domesticated rhino so much! We love our adoptables and, as Roma will attest, they stay with us until they find the perfect forever home...whether it takes a week, a month, a year or, in Romas case, even longer. :) While in our care, we provide each of our dogs with food, toys, leashes, beds/crates, flea/tick/HW preventatives, vet care, and more and guess what? Its not cheap! The adoption fee we collect ($175) covers only a very tiny part of the expenses we incur for each dog. So where do we get the rest of the money we need to care for our adopt-a-bulls? From donations! Merit is 100% volunteer- and donation-based. All donations are tax-deductible and go directly to the care of our dogs.
