We ended our walk together yesterday by our having me dangerously - TopicsExpress

We ended our walk together yesterday by our having me dangerously thumping mens throats from behind with our forearms. I was trying to emphasize the fact that the neck is a 360 degree target. The neck and head are the only targets that offer us this ability. Every area of the neck, be it from the front, from the sides or at the back of the neck-can offer valid and reliable targets and from wherever we are in relation to our adversary. I have to restrain myself from some of the more gruesome ways of dispatching deadly men with deadly intentions. I never know who reads my posts. I have to offer humane, but effective ways of stopping someone. As an example...the use of our knife doesnt always have to be a stabbing and poking affair. When I wrote about the clavicles as being valid targets, it was for a reason. If I have my knife in the standard grip position: I can hammer fist the clavicle and create real debilitating damage, without having to stab or slice an opponent, but with a slight angulation change-I can also break the clavicle and directly attack the side of the neck with the edge of my knife and all at one time. If the knife is in the ice pick position: I can break the clavicle while inserting my blade directly into the gap that is formed by the clavicle, the sternum and the first and second thoracic ribs. If the person happens to be inhaling, we can actually reach the upper lobes of the lungs, if we dont get hampered by the second thoracic rib-we can accomplish this because we will have broken the clavicle and this gives us precious increased range. The major blood vessels exiting the top most section of the heart can also be reached, as well as the subclavian arteries. We can also quite easily catch our blade upon the second thoracic rib and may in fact cut our own selves for our effort. So knowing how to get our goal accomplished is golden. This is where proper instruction by a knowledgeable instructor pays its ample dividends. All of these angulation moves and techniques are contained within the very basic movements of Serrada Escrima. We just dont know this in the beginning, because our minds havent opened. This is why its sad that I am just about ready to retire from actively teaching my art. I wanted to give my art back, before my time was up. I get very frustrated that so many people are attracted to the flashier FMA systems. I personally believe in the good basic applications of known, proven and effective ways to get the survival job done right and then practicing those basic moves until they become a very part of you. Good angulation, proper distancing, good timing and repetition can and will allow us to vary our attacks and and defenses at will and as needed, but it will be the basics that will be mostly responsible for keeping us alive. The basics hold the keys to our survival, because contained within the basics are all of the necessary ingredients needed for us to survive a very bad day. The art part is the slight nuance and personal interpretations of our arts that are demanded of us when we are under the pressure of staying alive. We are all different, but much alike. I have watching the numbers on Facebook and since they are down this means that the subject matter is either boring or uninteresting. I am sorry that couldnt pique the interest of the readers and so Ill stop writing about the neck and find another subject matter.
