We have a strong breeze rollin down through the valley today, so - TopicsExpress

We have a strong breeze rollin down through the valley today, so even though we have a partly sunny sky it feels rather chilly. Yesterday was pretty much the same though it was a bit more cloudy. Soon after we finished our mornin chores, the dogs an us took a hike down to the river then on the way back to the house we rounded up the cows an pushed em up near the barns so that when we fed hay out in the evenin the two newest calves would be handy to wrangle. We also wanted to separate last summers August calf from her mother. Got the two babies tagged an the bull calf banded fairly easy. However separatin the summer calf from the herd was much more difficult. She had no intention on leavin the herd. She was very aware that we were tryin to single her out, an proved to be a master of the game of hide n seek....or was it ring around the rosy?! In any case we spent a good deal of time circling one cow, then another. Each time we thought we had the upper hand she managed to prove otherwise. Finally when she was usin Bobbie an her calf as a buffer we decided to let her hook on to Bobbie an move all three of em to the weaning pen, then it was a rather simple task to cut mama an baby back out an haze them back to the herd, leavin the heifer in the pen by herself. Poor Gala (the newly weaned) heifer feels so abused right now but in the next few days we hope to introduce Pistol to her so that our orphaned calf can learn how to be a cow an theyll both have company.
