We have been hiking the Camino for a week and have had warm weather during the day and cold at night and early morning the last two days. Have met people from all over the world. Last night stayed in a auberge run by the city where we were all housed in a huge room set up with bunk beds. I was one of thirty or so. Lots of snoring .....felt right at home! Still very aware of knees,calves and feet when walking but have seen many others with blisters and injuries. Pays to use Vaseline on the toes and feet. And and take Tylenol before bed. The Rioja region is beautiful with the leaves of the grape vines changing colors. The red, orange leaf denotes the grapes used for red wines and the yellow leaves are on the vines of the white grapes used for white wines. Yesterday watched a farmer plow his fields and enjoyed the rich,verdant fragrance of freshly turned earth. The deep rich brown soil is plowed in perfect rows and paints an earth collage. I stared in wonder! Another day a farmer was returning from gathering fruit and vegetables from a small garden. He stopped and asked me if I were on the way to Santigo. Then he reached into his basket and pulled out two figs and put into my hand. I was touched.
