We need to shut down Wall Street Speculators if nothing else a small transaction(sales) tax on every trade would discourage the kind of speculation that drives up prices by taking the profit out of flipping securities by computer or other means many times in short periods of time. An outright ban on speculation in a futures market for food, fuel and other necessities might work, but it might have rather dire consequences for farmers who depend on futures for some stability in their markets. The fine line needs to be drawn and I think the transaction tax is probably the best way to do it.
