We ought to look at this whole world as a spectrum and not in - TopicsExpress

We ought to look at this whole world as a spectrum and not in categories. No human, men and women alike, should be confined into being simply what they are obliged to be. There is one particular line which stood out the most for me in this amazing speech : But I am one of the lucky ones...because my mentors didnt assume that I would go less far because I may give birth to a child one day. Last year, as lucky as I was, I got a chance to meet a scientist/professor from Yale through a science conference. She told me her story. Among with all her amazing accomplishments – how she got into Stanford by writing her essay in red crayon, how she participated in a research with a Nobel scientist, or how she was carrying out a promising research of her own – one that stood out for me the most was how she was able to attain and keep her research position despite that people in the industry were very hesitant about hiring women, given that marriage (and their chance of having a baby in the near future) make them less convincing and less likely to commit to their work. The scientist, similar to Emma, said that she was lucky, for that her mentors were able to look past the common judgment to give her a chance to prove herself. Growing up in a family where my parents treasure me as much as they treasure my little brother and do not expect less from me because I am a girl, I did not realize how big the gap between men and women is. Hence, after hearing the experience of the scientist, I am more attentive to feminism and gender inequality. Love you, Emma Watson.
