Websters Lookout The Lookout was Named in 1931, after James Daniel Webster, Hurstville City Councils Engineer at the time, in recognition of his efforts in securing and implementing major improvements to Oatley Park. Occupying a peninsula at the junction of Georges River and Lime Kiln Bay, Oatley Park protects the best remaining natual bushland in the St. George area. Established in 1888, its 45 hectares is home to more than 300 native plant species. During the Great Depression (early 1930s), out of work stone masons were employed to build sea walls, the picnic shelter known as The Castle, extend the baths and devolope roads. Websters Lookout was constructed at the time. It provides views over the Georges River extending to Como rail bridge, and over the tree-covered suburbs of Illawong, Como and Oatley. Nestled amongst the lookout in a sandstone rock is a memorial plaque; In loving memory of Arthur George Turner FOREVER AN OATLEY BOY [Oatley Heritage and Historical Society]
