Wednesday 6th August A day in the country Some people are morning people and some just need a few more minutes, I may be the latter, as Maria brews her kava (coffee) that I find unbearable and uncle tries to feed me I sip on some water. I finally decide that the apples I stewed last night would go nicely with some yoghurt, we then finish with fresh bread and cream cheese and we are off for our first walk of the day where uncle tells of the plots of farming land and how as there are so few farmers now the land is overgrown. I am more interested in deer and bears although the giant pumpkin and tiny blackberries distract me. Uncle wanders off and asks for us to go ahead....he soon returns with a large forest mushroom, Maria thought he needed to pee but as I later come to the conclusion he is hiding his favourite mushroom spot. Maria and I take another path after lunch but to her dismay we dont find the mushroom she desires. Uncle goes for a walk but wants to go alone it is then my suspicions are confirmed as he returns with a bag of mushrooms. Maria alertsme to the song playing on the radio Crowded Houses Weather with you, we start singing oh I miss music so much. My dad always taught me to keep my eyes open or I may miss something I spotter a deer in a field, another swimming across a lake and a hare behind a bush as we travelled on trains and as we sit sipping nettle tea I am distracted by what seems like a large bee hovering over uncles flower bed. It is about an inch long and from three meters away looks the same colour as a bee, when I realise what it is I am stunned......its a hummingbird. Maria doesnt believe it until I spot it again and we capture it on film. Yet again nature so amazing we watch it for hours. The day ends with a magnificent feast of turkey legs baked potatoes and cucumber salad prepared by us and cooked in a wood stove. After we need to take another walk and as we venture along I notice on the road a minute frog about 1cm it is so tiny and cute and soon we realise we need to watch where we walk as I cant bear to step on them, some locals we chat to say they have hatched after the rain last night. Yet another amazing thing for us to experience.
