Summer roughly half complete, Chinas nuclear build offers a glimpse of whats to come over the next few years. Sanmen 1 is Westinghouses flagship AP1000 plant, with Sanmen 2 and two additional units at Haiyang close behind. This video compiles photos taken from the start of construction at Sanmen in 2009 through the beginning of 2014. Unit 1 is scheduled to begin operating this year, with the first unit at Haiyang and the second unit at Sanmen several months behind it. View Video>>>> NRC Publishes Annual Rundown of Safety at U.S. Reactors The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has finished its annual assessments of the safety at Americas 100 operating power reactors. Eighty held its highest safety performance rating at the close of 2013, with safety standings fleet wide improving somewhat compared to the previous year. Within the regulatory action matrix that categorizes sites by the level of oversight deemed necessary by the NRC, nine additional plants were slated for supplemental inspections for one or two items of low safety significance. These units were Browns Ferry 3, Clinton, Fitzpatrick, Grand Gulf 1, LaSalle 2, Point Beach 2, Prairie Island 2 and Turkey Point 3. The Robinson plant in South Carolina was also on that list but has since improved its standing. Read More>>>> Westinghouse to Provide Instrumentation for Reactors in Finland Westinghouse and its parent company Toshiba have announced a contract to supply reactor-core instrumentation for a nuclear plant in Finland. Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) selected the companies to install traversing in-core probes at Olkiluoto 1 and 2, according to a release from Westinghouse Tuesday. The value of the contract was not disclosed. The work encompasses fabrication, project management and installation during outages in 2016 and 2017. R
