Weekly Bulletin for September 29 – October 3: *We have wi-fi! - TopicsExpress

Weekly Bulletin for September 29 – October 3: *We have wi-fi! We have about 10 students that are not able to connect automatically to our wi-fi but we are problem solving this today. *We have phones! Please contact us directly at 552-2580. Use this phone number to report absences, to speak with a teacher/administrator, or just call us if you have a question! *We now have a copy machine. Little of our work is done using copies, but this is still nice for pre-tests, post-tests, entry documents, launch documents, etc. *Soon we will be sending out information on ordering hoodies, long sleeve tees, windbreakers, etc. Anything you might need for your child in winter will be available soon. *Remember, if you park to walk your kids up or drop your kids off, do not leave your car running. *Most grade levels have wrapped up their first PBL and will be launching their next PBL soon, this week. PBLs end with a post-test and begin with a pre-test. So, your child might come home talking about a test. Even though we gauge performance and mastery during the PBL, we also must see how our students transfer that knowledge to paper/pencil tests. *Each grade level team is planning an “Open House” event. We are offering three different times to attend so that you can work around siblings and work schedules, etc. Info is below: Where: In the classroom! When: October 7 Times to choose from: 2pm, 3:30pm, 6:30pm Please bring your child’s iPad, questions about PBL (project based learning) and any other information you would like to share with us during this time. This session will not be student specific, it will be grade level specific so please plan on having a parent conference with the teachers if you have questions specific to your child. We can’t wait to see ya’ll soon! *During the October 7 session, grading will be discussed. We will have report cards for first six weeks finished and will give information on parent access for grades for next six weeks. We are “standards based grading” and I think you will really like this as a parent. I know, as a parent, I love it because I am finally able to see what skill my child has mastered. *In the previous bulletins, I alluded to a Principal Project. A rubric for this project will be sent home October 1. This is a project that will be completed 100% at home. The description is below: Your child will participate in a Living Museum on October 31. For the Living Museum, your child will be required to find a mathematician, scientist, innovator, piece of technology or invention to study. Your child will be required to provide 5-7 facts about their chosen person or object of study. Your child will then be required to dress as their chosen study. During the Living Museum, all kids (even our youngest!), will present their facts in some way to the audience. They can create a video on their iPad, make a poster, memorize the facts, sing a song with the facts….be creative! Example: Your child could choose to be Benjamin Franklin or your child could choose to be the light bulb. Your child could choose to be an iPad or your child could choose to be an astronaut! Once you receive the rubric, you can start planning! This is meant to be exciting and to get our kids thinking about science/math technology as a career and exposing them to the great innovators and innovations of the world! Have a great week! Attached you will find a flyer for another afterschool, extracurricular opportunity. JS Jennifer Seybert, Ed.D.
