“Welcome To The Club” When I was a young man, or should I say - TopicsExpress

“Welcome To The Club” When I was a young man, or should I say “big boy”, I was in the Marine Corps. There were times that my mom would call and she would share a Bible verse with me. It always seemed that the Bible verse fit the exact situation that I was going through, but at that time, I had a hardened heart. There were times that I didn’t want to hear a Bible verse. I wanted someone to join me in my “pity party”. But, looking back, I now know that my mom was telling me the exact Bible verses that got her through situations similar to mine. In essence, she was saying, “Welcome to the Club”, I have been where you are. What you need to do is turn back to God, and let Him lead you. Moses had a few bad days in his life, and I would like to highlight one of them for you. Have you ever woke up on top of the world, thinking that you were going to have a wonderful, successful day…..but, shortly after your feet hit the floor things just fall apart. Your good day turns bad at every step of the way, and you are sitting there wondering, “what just happened?” I think Moses had this same thought. It all started on a high note. “Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people, and they BELIEVED. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.” Exodus 4:29-31 All the people were on a spiritual high, and they were so excited that God had heard their cry. They were going to be delivered! Have you been there before? Have you been at a place where you were so excited about what God was going to do, but when the day started to unfold, it didn’t work out the way you had envisioned it? Moses was about to go with Aaron in front of Pharaoh, and tell him what God instructed them to say. Take a look at how Moses’ day went…. “Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: “Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.’” Exodus 5:1 Notice that this verse indicates that as soon as they were done worshipping God, they went to Pharaoh. They didn’t wait 3 days. They went immediately. “Pharaoh said, ‘Who is the Lord, that I should obey Him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.’” Exodus 5:2 I wonder as I read this passage if Moses thought to himself, “God, are you there? You can step in and change Pharaoh’s mind anytime now.” But, Moses requested again, the same day….”The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or He may strike us with plagues or with the sword.” (Exodus 5:3) Moses’ day is about to get worse…. “That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people. ‘You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, “Let us go and sacrifice to our God.” Make the work harder for the men so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.” Exodus 5:6-9 The SAME DAY, Pharaoh made their work harder, and because the quota was the same, the foremen and slave drivers beat the workers even more. When the foremen went to appeal to Pharaoh, they were not totally aware as for the reason why they had to produce more with less. Pharaoh let them know that Moses and Aaron had made the request to let Israel go, and this is why the workload had increased. When word got back to the Israelites, this is what they said to Moses and Aaron…. “May the Lord look upon you and judge you! You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.” Exodus 5:21 This all happened in ONE DAY. Moses got up, and everyone was excited about what God was going to do. But, when things didn’t work out the way they had planned, how quickly things turned from good to bad. You may have had days like this where you started off in a great mood, and then everything fell apart. I think the one lesson that we can take from this lesson today is found in Exodus 6:1. It is found in the first 5 words. “Moses returned to the Lord….” I want to tell you, we have all been there…”WELCOME TO THE CLUB”. When things get bad or don’t go the way you thought they should, “return to the Lord”. Sorry for the long post, but felt very convicted about this. Have a great day Facebook Friends, Bert
