Welcome to the Year of the High Jump, note by Kevin Mangan Following one of the greatest High Jump competitions ever in Doha that saw four men go 237 or higher, it is no longer an assumption that we can add one more to the list of men partaking in the year of the High Jump. Last years World Champ and frequent World Record threatener Bohdan Bondarenko skipped Doha and opened his season with a superb 240 in Tokyo. The Tokyo Olympic Stadium saw its last ever track meet in its current incarnation as Bondarenko picked up in 2014 right where he left off in 2013, in the 240 club. Whenever Bohdan joins the four men from Doha: Ivan Ukhov, Erik Kynard, Derek Drouin and Mutaz Essa Barshim, we may see the first ever meet with five men over 240, and perhaps more than one man over Sotomayors legendary 245 World Record height. For Track & Field 2014 is the year of the High Jump.
