…Well, there it is! Grinded out 42.2 K into the wind and finished in 3:13. Really cool experience, and it was amazing to come back and run the last KM with Jenny as she smashed her last PB by 36 minutes. What I took away from that experience is just how important the mental aspect of marathoning is. I did my first half at my projected pace of around 1:34 before hitting a lull in second half and slowing down substantially. I told myself I was through. Too tired. Im just going to have to trudge along alone until I finish it out. Then I ran past Stefan, who was cheering on his teammates as a spectator. He was amazing. He lifted me up emotionally and psychologically and paced me the last 4 k as we knocked off KMs in the low 4s. This tells me I had A LOT MORE LEFT than I thought! Im not mad at all though. No reason to be. It was a beautiful experience and Ill do even better next time. The fact it was 25 minutes faster than my last marathon helps, too. Congratulations to any and all who finished the races today. Really looking forward to the next cycle of training!
